PARTICIPATION
The Expo Committee invites you to be part of this exciting and ever-expanding community event, now in its 7th year. The Expo runs because a small bunch of local volunteers loves to support and build community through art, bringing people together to celebrate our special environment and shared creative spirit. And mostly it runs because of you, the artist, art lover, art purchaser, art student, school student, would-be artist, community member.... your participation makes this event our biggest creative gathering in Ocean Shores. We have found a magnificent new home! Our local Public School, Ocean Shores Primary in Shara Boulevard, is partnering us by offering to host the Expo. We have been warmly welcomed with great enthusiasm and support by the school P and C and the School Principal, Chris Hauritz. The school has a huge auditorium surrounded by vast lawns, ideal for displays, workshops and performance, an under-cover cafe, extra rooms for demonstrations, local history talks and workshops and a mini amphitheatre for audio-visual. Together we are coming up with many new and exciting new possibilities. Already a grant has been secured, funding local artists to share their skills through workshops over the weekend.
CREATING TO THE THEME
After lively discussions, we have come up with a theme for 2010: "THE ELEMENTS". We hope this will inspire artists to contemplate the many aspects of the elements, earth, water, fire, air, space.. as the basis for our bodies and our environment, and how we engage with the natural elements in ways that can empower or destroy us. Each year we have been amazed at the interpretations of the theme, giving voice to commentary by artists in social, political, environmental and spiritual dimensions. School students have been particularly imaginative with their insights on the themes.
DATES
The Expo 2010 is held from 27th to 29th August, Opening Party on Friday 27th, with Thursday 26th for delivery of artworks. The Entry Form will be available online in June and closing date for entries will be early August, about three weeks before the Expo. All details will be posted on this website, so keep checking in.
