Sculptures added to O S A Expo 2008.
Stone, marble, glass and bronze are some of the media local artists can now bring to the Ocean Shores Arts Expo '08. Local sculptor Judson Chatfield is pretty excited that the popular annual art show now includes sculpture for the first time. He says that 3-D art forms are as old as - or older than - painting itself. For millenia, things have been modeled from clay or rocks as a way of shaping our belief patterns, our sociology and also recording information. This year, along with 2-D media artists such as oil and watercolour painters, sculptors are invited to contemplate the theme for '08 which is 'BELONGING'. "This theme goes along with reconciliation and the understanding of what is needed ethnically, socially and ecologically- how we fit together as a unit," said Judson. "I hope we see sculpture that is not just decoration but invite sculptors to come up with a comment, working between mass and the negative space." There are size and weight limitations due to space, so works will not be monumental but intimate, from hand-held up to sculpture sized for interiors. Some sculptors might submit scale models for large works. Artists can check the website for details at *osartexpo.com*. The Show is again sponsored by the Lions Club. Judson sees that the best way to support artists and their endeavours is to buy their original work. "You never know," says Judson, "You might be buying a future Van Gogh!"
